GROUND TO FLOURISH.

A place couples call magical.

An outstanding expression of mid-century Pacific Northwest architecture, Anker I. Molver’s design reflects his Scandinavian heritage and Japanese inspiration, beautifully expressed through massive timbers felled and milled on-site.

GROUND TO FLOURISH.

Built in 1962, the house reflects an inspired time for Seattle, when the World’s Fair and built iconic like the Space Needle and Monorail.

Across the Puget Sound, Louise & Merlin Knapp sought their own inspired architecture, in the form of a special, but hardly ostentatious residence.

Like most Molver buildings, the house’s design takes cues from its natural surroundings, seeking harmony over dominance.

Although Molver rarely indulged in ways like his more famous contemporaries, his homes nevertheless reflect architectural flourishes and signature.

Anker I. Molver was born in Norway in 1911 and emigrated to the Seattle area as a child. After serving in WWII, he traveled to Japan and was so inspired by the architecture that he enrolled in the University of Washington’s Architecture program.

After a prolific career, Molver died in 2021. Today, scores of his wood and stone homes remain across the Puget Sound region.

Through Anker’s Center, we trying to make more people know Molver’s architectural legacy.
